Although I have had the privilege of singing in the recording studio several times now, I just finished a new first for me! For the past three days, I have been working diligently to record three of my very own songs! This is a dream come true, folks! Of all the times that I have been in the studio, this is the first time I have ever been singing my own compositions for an official release. And what a thrill it was!
My original music began to generate requests and interest at live gigs, so off to the studio I went! I actually have much grace and several angels on my side who have helped
to make this a reality for me…especially one in particular. It feels deeply fulfilling to have so many phenomenal people believing in me!
While researching the costs of recording in Nashville, as opposed to recording in Austin, I reached out to Emmy award winning songwriter and well known Nashville producer, Trey Bruce. He and I met years ago when I was fresh off the boat, so to speak, in Nashville. Trey offered up the option of him coming down to Austin to record, and I jumped at the chance to join some of Austin’s best musicians with one of Nashville’s finest producers. How fitting for my debut release! I am a Texas girl born and raised, through and through, but many of my first, formative years as an artist were spent
Mainly through my guitar player, Jimmy Pringle, who has lived and played in Austin all of his life, I was able to connect with some of Austin’s greatest talent. On drums, Tommy Taylor. On bass, Roscoe Beck. On keys, Bukka Allen. On acoustic guitar, Robert McEntee. On electric, Bill Browder. And on mandolin and dobro, the fabulous Chris Gage. Also, much to my delight, my buddy Drew Womack provided backing vocals! He is one of the best in the biz, and I am so fortunate to have his songbird voice behind me. His voice will make you swoon, ladies!
I cannot even describe with words what an incredible feeling it is to watch all of these super talented and highly respected individuals come together and collaborate on my music. It seems like yesterday that these songs were just little nuggets of ideas, and Jan, Jessie and I were scratchin’ our heads in Jan’s kitchen, trying to piece them together. What a fabulous, full circle moment for me while standing in front of that mic at Arlyn Studios, singing my little heart out to these words and melodies.
So now, I am HOOKED! I cannot wait to do this again and already have more original music in mind for my next recording. Trey is brilliant, and I am over the moon with the finished product. This girl is blessed beyond words that my debut release is something that I am soooo proud of. We are about to find out if my fans will agree, but, either way, I can hold my head high whenever I share this work. And that, my friends, is the ultimate satisfaction for this artist!
